A commanding stone Georgian manor house comprising some 18,000 square feet rises above the shore of Long Island Sound in Greenwich, CT. The impressive country home takes its inspiration from the estate house at Old Westbury Gardens. The central projecting bay of the façade is anchored by a limestone entrance portico supporting a balcony enclosed with bronze railings between two oval windows. A decorative stone cartouche framing a centered circular window completes the composition.

The porches facing east and south and the balconies above them provide areas to enjoy the panoramic view. A modillion cornice gives way to a graduated slate roof and massive central chimney. A door below an arched transom allows access to the roof deck for unobstructed views and star gazing at night from The Long Island Sound to Manhattan by day.

At the rear of the house the site terraces down to the water, allowing for an accessible and fully developed basement level. This includes a Sitting Room bar and Family Room along with two guest bedrooms and a sub-basement basketball court.

The interior features a double height Entry Hall that opens onto the Living Room and a view of the water framed by a series of arches. To the left is the paneled Library and Billiards room, containing a curved bar, while to the right is the Dining Room with Kitchen, Family Room and Office bay beyond. The second floor features the Master Bedroom suite along with an additional three bedroom suites, Children’s Study and Laundry Room.

“I have worked with Chuck Hilton for over twenty years, and I have the utmost respect for him both professionally and personally. We have each evolved from the "newby" Greenwich Architect and General Contractor to the prestigious firms that we both are today, based on unwavering attention to Clients and their goals, and delivering their projects with the highest level of enduring quality. Charles Hilton Architects is at the very top of my list of Architects that I choose to work with, for new homes and significant renovations to special properties. Chuck has assembled a fabulous Team, capable of designing and executing projects with unparalleled attention to details and quality. Their plans and construction documents are superbly presented, which is vital to me as a General Contractor. I have always had a wonderful working relationship with his Team, in a field where this is not always the case. We both put aside any thoughts of who brings the most value to the Project, and instead focus on working together as a larger Team, on behalf of the Client and the Project. The results speak for themselves, on every project.”
